Realtor Profile
Beth Townsend began working for A. William McKee, a pre-eminent developer in Cashiers, right after graduating from the University of Florida in 1981, and she never left.
Throughout her tenure with McKee, she’s been a tennis pro, marketing assistant, project manager for several communities and an extremely successful real estate professional with McKee Properties since 1993.
After McKee’s death in 2016, Townsend became a co-owner of McKee Properties.
Townsend knows firsthand what it’s like to fall in love with the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau. She grew up in Sarasota, FL, but her family has owned a beloved home in High Hampton for over 50 years.
“I have a sister, and the two of us soon realized we were mountain girls and not beach girls,” Townsend said. “As soon as I graduated from college, I moved to the mountains.”
Today, Townsend lives on a family farm circa 1892 that she renovated in 2018. She loves spending time on her property with her two Boxers.
“I do love and appreciate this area and specifically where I live,” Townsend said. “The setting inspires me to match that same feeling for my clients to what they’re buying.”
With each client, Townsend enjoys starting with a blank slate and putting the puzzle pieces together for them to find the perfect home. She focuses on selling lifestyle and lets the real estate component follow. Building relationships is a welcome bonus, Townsend added.
“Most of my friends started out as clients,” she said. “I feel like I have the responsibility to introduce them to the culture here, and as a result we become friends.”
Townsend sells private club properties, luxury homes and investment properties. Additionally, and even closer to her heart, she utilizes her degree in Landscape Architecture to specialize in land planning and conservation. A career highlight was her five-year involvement with family landowners who assembled specialists to create a conservation easement protecting more than 600 acres of land close to the center of Cashiers. Townsend successfully marketed and sold portions of the adjoining 400 acres.
“It’s important to preserve our beautiful portion of the world,” she said.
