In this compelling debut memoir, Braulio Fonseca blends poetry and prose to chronicle a deeply personal journey of identity, resilience, and creative awakening. Written in part without a predetermined ending, Falling Forward captures the immediacy of transformation as it unfolds, offering readers an honest reflection on struggle, change, and growth.

“‘I have learned to use the switchbacks,’ Fonseca proclaims, and so he has, as he depicts one  man’s wayward path from despair to the redemptive power of faith and art. Falling Forward is an

ambitious union of poetry and memoir, and through Fonseca’s artistry and unflinching honesty, that ambition is achieved. Bravo.”

About the Author

Braulio Fonseca, a U.S. military veteran, is currently a PhD candidate and teaching assistant at Florida State University. He has been writing since childhood and combines academic and creative backgrounds in this memoir. Falling Forward invites readers into a personal journey of growth and self-discovery, with each page possessing its own distinct energy.

In 2020, as COVID-19 transformed daily life, Fonseca left Los Angeles and returned to his roots in the Appalachian Mountains. This memoir recounts that journey—not just as a departure from his previous life, but as a catalyst for embracing his creative spirit. Falling Forward shares honest truths about overcoming challenges and embracing change.

“This book was a rollercoaster to write,” Fonseca shares. “I started without a clear ending. The first two acts reflected on my past, while the third unfolded in real time; in a way, I was writing to my future self. The spontaneity of daily life gave each page a unique character.”

The memoir speaks to anyone who has navigated identity challenges or faced difficult change. “I hope this book resonates with fans of poetry and memoir alike, especially those who understand what it's like to struggle and rise again,” Fonseca notes.

In support of a worthy cause, all proceeds from Falling Forward will benefit The Warriors Way Cancer Fund Inc., highlighting the spirit of resilience that runs through the work. Join Fonseca on this journey of discovery and learn what it means to ‘fall forward’ into a new chapter.
