The first property HCLT protected, this natural heritage conservation is home to a number of rare, endemic, and glacial relic species such as the ground juniper (Satulah is one of the only sites in NC for the species), Hartweg's locust, Carolina hemlock, table mountain pine, and others. Ravens are commonly seen and heard soaring around, and bears frequent the 4 species of blueberries and chinquapin chestnuts that are abundant on the mountain.
