A True Original

To residents of Highlands and Cashiers, Scott Low might look familiar. You’ve seen him perform at Highlander Mountain House on Thursday nights, a residency that began in 2023 and that he plans to continue indefinitely. What you might not know is how varied Scott’s talents and skill set are. A resident of Clayton, Georgia, Scott and his wife built Hatch Camp and Art Farm (where they explore fly fishing, art, and music) and recently took over Clayton’s Holistic Mountain Market. And with three kids, Scott lists “keeping my family healthy and strong” as one of his primary goals.

Musically, Scott’s career stretches back more than 25 years. After studying jazz in Atlanta, Scott moved to Athens, Georgia, and played in more than 20 bands. He describes his varied experience as “rock to jazz to hip-hop to folk music.” Playing up to 225 shows a year all over the country since 2006, Scott has shared stages with Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Cedric Burnside, Shovels and Rope, JJ Grey, and many more.

After successful record and publishing deals, Scott now prefers to stay independent, eschewing trends like Spotify and AI in favor of a personal connection with his audience.

“I've always wanted to be an artist, not just an entertainer. An original artist. Music is probably our country's greatest export, and I pull inspiration and foundation from the masters of jazz, blues, and roots music. In a world of AI and streaming that has devalued this art, I want to help people see the history and the beauty of our greatest art form while creating something new and fresh.”

To that end, Scott urges his audience to come see him in person when possible. Music is better for all involved when you let yourself feel and respond accordingly… An AI robot cannot feel or respond to a sweaty, dirty blues groove in a dark bar on a Thursday night in Highlands.
